New VSonic GR07 Bass Ed. In-ear IEMs headphones. The MK2 is a fundamentally balanced earphone, and the Bass Edition is nothing but modified MK2, so the spirit remains the same. The main difference is their inclination towards bass and mid-low frequencies as opposed to their brothers’ tendency to mid- and mid-highs.

The first VSonic GR07 were released in 2011, and immediately earned themselves a privileged position among users as versatile earphones with an astounding quality-cost relationship. Their main virtues are undoubtedly a balanced, precise sound, a wide soundstage and a very natural timbre. Short after, the VSonic GR07 MK2 were released, minimizing certain sibilance issues present in the early version and providing improvements in both the cable and the finishes, which put the icing on the cake of an already fantastic product.

Whenever we mention the virtues of a VSonic GR07 model, the list of adjectives goes always the same: natural, balanced, precise, pleasant, all-purpose… and then “natural” again. Too often, the lack of grandiose adjectives such as “impressive bass sounds” or “crystalline treble” leads some –especially those who just landed on the audio world– to divert their attention towards more appealing models. After a while, when they finally get to try some VSonic GR07, they immediately realize their mistake.

As opposed to more spectacular options, the VSonic GR07 deliver a more mature sound that hooks after some use and is missed when not around. Everything sounds where it’s meant to, without major lacks; it’s the sum of all these virtues that makes the VSonic GR07 a highly esteemed earphone even among those who own more advanced and expensive models.

Now focusing on the sound of this Bass Edition, bass frequencies have an overall wider extension than the VSonic GR07 MK2 model and some more power but –despite what their name may suggest– these are not basshead earphones. Mid-range frequencies have an excellent presentation, close and with a nearly perfect articulation. Trebles are precise despite being somewhat cut compared to the VSonic GR07 MK2 model. We are not talking about a dark, bass-oriented earphone, but compared to the basic version there is a clear variation, with a greater presence of bass and a far less brilliant treble extreme. The VSonic GR07 MK2 is a fundamentally balanced earphone, and the Bass Edition is nothing but modified MK2, so the spirit remains the same. The main difference is their inclination towards bass and mid-low frequencies as opposed to their brothers’ tendency to mid- and mid-highs.

As a technical hint, it becomes necessary to focus on some little “tricks” in this Bass Edition –knowing the brand and their creator, these don’t come as a surprise, but bring to the surface their taste for the detail. In the tech specs we learn how the Bass Ed. declare 320 Ohm for the 500 Ohm of the GR07 MK2 at the same sensitivity level (108 db). This better efficiency, along with a cable with a higher silver percentage, allow them to draw more from the source and provide the low frequencies (where earphones benefit from this extra power the most) with a major forcefulness. People at Vsonic don’t just refurbish the acoustic enclosure to get more bass, but they aim the whole earphone to that goal.

The crafting is excellent and provides comfort, considerable isolation and great durability. Despite not being the most comfortable and isolating earphones available, the GR07 Bass Ed. reach high levels in both aspects, providing an excellent experience. On the other hand, they’re solid as a tank, with high quality components, many of them oversized. The cable and other connectors are extremely solid while providing really good touch and ergonomics. Finally, presentation is impressive, as usual in the Vsonic family. They come with ear guides, a very useful pouch and, above all, an endless array of eartips among which you’re sure to find the ones that fit you the best.

To sum up, just like their brothers VSonic GR07 MK2, these are among the best earphones to be found in our shop and in the market, fitting the needs of those seeking some more punch without renouncing to balance and precision. The overall use experience is excellent thanks to a great sound quality, comfort and durability usually reserved for products twice their price.
